OEM vs aftermarket parts explained

When you buy a spare part you will usually see OEM and aftermarket options. Both can be the right choice, depending on the part and your budget.

OEM parts

OEM (original equipment manufacturer) parts are the same parts your car was built with, supplied under the car maker’s brand. Fit is exact and quality matches the original.

Aftermarket parts

Aftermarket parts are made by other brands to fit your car. Reputed brands such as Bosch, Valeo, Uno Minda and Hella often supply car makers directly, so quality can match OEM at a lower price.

How to choose

  • Safety parts (brakes, steering, suspension): choose OEM or a reputed aftermarket brand.
  • Service parts (filters, oils, bulbs): good aftermarket brands offer the best value.
  • Body and trim parts: OEM gives the most accurate fit and finish.

Use the Origin filter on any Motolith listing to compare OEM and aftermarket options side by side.
